We took a look at Newcastle Blue Star in our latest instalment of ‘The Lowdown.’
Redcar Athletic’s near-infallible home record tonight comes under threat from the youngest club in the Northern League roster, but not the weakest by some distance.
Newcastle Blue Star as it exists today formed just SIX years ago, taking the north east non-league scene by storm, and offering no let up as of yet.

The first competitive meeting between the two clubs this evening, we delved into the history of our Tyneside counterparts, from the original club in 1930, to the Blue Star you’ll see at Green Lane come 7:30pm.

WHO ARE YA?
Newcastle Blue Star
Formed just six years ago in 2018, the Blue Star name can be traced all the way back to 1930, when the original club came to pass.
Members of the Wearside League from 1973, Newcastle Blue Star played their football at Druids Park – or the Wheatsheaf Ground – soon moving to Kingston Park, which now hosts Newcastle Falcons.
The Tynesiders’ greatest success came at Wembley in 1978, two goals enough to beat Barton Rovers to the coveted Isuzu FA Vase trophy, and return home to the north east as but the fifth winners of the competition.

Newcastle Blue Star’s success continued into the early 2000s, the club promoted to the Northern Premier League, but soon forced to dissolve through financial irregularities.
The Blue Star set to visit Green Lane this evening came to be just six years ago, a reformation of the old club ten years later, with the ambition no less than before.
Based at Scotswood – one of the finest grounds in the Northern League roster – Blue Star climbed the football pyramid from the Northern Football Alliance to Step Five in just SIX years.
Backed by a vocal support, the ambition of the small club from the West End of Newcastle knows no bounds, and their success is most certainly far from over.

The Tynesiders are yet to be beaten on their travels, boasting an important point for Redcar’s sake against Boro Rangers at Phoenix Park.

For the Steelmen, victory this evening would restore a seven point gap at the top of the table, now to Blyth Town.
