League Cup scrapped over fixture backlog.

Further to communication from the Ebac Northern Football League, Redcar Athletic can confirm that the 2023/24 Brooks Mileson Memorial League Cup has been cancelled.

The League Management Committee reached the decision as of severe fixture congestion, with a backlog of over 110 games due to adverse weather.

Redcar Athletic were due to face Northallerton Town in the competition’s second round, having received a bye through to such stage.

Glenn Youngman, the chairmen of the Northern League, offered the following explanation on the league’s official website.

“We have reluctantly made the decision to cancel this year’s Brooks Mileson League Cup and the Ernest Armstrong Memorial Cup.

“Our priority has to be to ensure that league fixtures are completed. By now, more than half of the fixtures should have been played, but some clubs are up to 10 games behind schedule.“

League fixtures are set to be fulfilled by April 20th, before the play-off stages should take place.

There has been no further confirmation on the future of the League Cup at this stage.
