The former West Auckland man shared Redcar’s desire for success in the Isuzu FA Vase.

Oscar Fletcher says the Steelmen are determined to succeed in this year’s Isuzu FA Vase, albeit given a tough ask to reach the competition proper in West Auckland Town.

The midfielder told Ash Stone he and his teammates will take a great deal of confidence from league successes into tomorrow’s tie, still certain his former side will make it difficult to match last season’s run to the First Round Proper.

Entering the Isuzu FA Vase in the Second Qualifying Round, Redcar Athletic face the biggest tie (by league position) in the competition, hosting fourth placed West Auckland Town.

The ‘First World Cup Winners’ have enjoyed fine success since a four-goal thumping at Green Lane in the Northern League, and will take to the Redcar seafront with some confidence on their side.

In much the same vein, Redcar have continued to put down a marker as one of the league’s best, conceding but the once at Green Lane, and currently 13 goals without reply.

A pivotal part of such triumph has been Oscar Fletcher, the midfielder netting a hat-trick against Penrith, and creating both goals up at Tow Law last weekend.

On the start of the Isuzu FA Vase, he said: “I think all the lads have got a positive mindset going into Saturday, and rightly so.”

“We’ve prepared well in training, and our recent league form has given us a confidence that could be massive going into the (Isuzu) FA Vase.

“I think the belief from the lads has been massive for us so far this season, and will continue to play a big part.

“We’ve been looking forward to getting started in the Isuzu FA Vase since preseason, so hopefully we can put in a good performance, and progress to the next round.”

FIXTURES AND RESULTS

Leaving Redcar at the back end of last season in favour of West Auckland Town, before returning over the summer, this is a fixture of great importance for Oscar Fletcher.

The midfielder scored his first of the season against his former employer in July, now on a hot-streak of form, and keen for more.

Still, Oscar had high praise for West Auckland, and his old boss Gary Forrest, quick to remind fans the of the quality within their ranks.

He added: “Personally, this game means a lot for me.”

“They (West Auckland Town) have had some great results in the league, and I don’t think it’s a shock.

“West will have the same mindset as us in terms of belief, and the desire to progress in this competition, so I think it’ll be a high intensity, good quality match.”
