Match Report: Redcar Athletic 4-0 Lincoln United

One of the longest months of football possible is finally over, and we end how we started, with a 4 goal lead over our opposition

On a brief side note before I start this match report, I would just like to say: Whoever decided to change the clocks, I really don’t like you. I still don’t know what time it is right now.

Now, onto the Redcar match!

8 matches, 7 wins, and 28 goals, it has been a decent month for the Steelmen, and the only question now is “what will the rest of the year bring our way?”

A heavily changed line up that saw Mitch Parkinson and Mark Anderson starting, and Olly Cann returning to the squad.

There was no doubt that we still had fielded a very strong team, just proving how great our squad depth truly is.

As the game started, you could tell who was the stronger of the two sides, with the Steelmen instantly hammering away at the Lincoln goal.

Adam Boyes, Louis Johnson, and Bradley Fewster all had numerous great chances that they couldn’t convert.

Our first goal of the afternoon ended up coming from Owen Burns, who appeared to be playing more on the right wing, with the goal coming about with Oscar Fletcher getting the ball on the left-hand side of the pitch and playing a great ball across the field to Burns.

He took a couple touches and proceeded to slot the ball into the far corner to give us the lead

That goal was also our 100th of the calendar year, a feat that is beyond remarkable, truly showing how amazing this team is under Carl Jarrett and the rest of the coaching team!

As is with Redcar Athletic, our 2nd goal was very quick to follow, with Johnson getting on the end of a long ball from our defence and playing a pass across to Boyes, who was able to get himself deservedly onto the scoresheet.

Following that quick fire double, we once again messed up some great chances to extend our lead, with Boyes, Fewster and Johnson all missing gilded opportunities to make it 3-0.

Ultimately, though, it was our talisman who got the next goal, with an absolutely stunning bit of dribbling from Owen Burns enabling him to play a pass across to Boyes, who made no mistake in finishing the move off and putting the ball low into the net.

A 3-0 lead at the break, everything was coming up, Milhouse Redcar!

A cold day, a great scoreline for us and frustrations for our opponents

The 2nd half started with one of the weirdest things I’ve witnessed in a while, as every time we kicked off the ref would instantly blow his whistle, and we would have to redo the restart

This happened roughly 3 times before eventually we passed it to Anderson, who pumped the ball forwards with no repercussions.

Our final goal of the evening came in the 50th minute, as Curtis Round received the ball by the halfway line and went on a long run down the left.

This saw him evade challenges, round the keeper, and end the move by putting the ball in the net to make it 4-0 to us.

Lincoln’s keeper was able to make quite a few stops in the 2nd half to keep many of our players at bay, but honestly, we could have scored a good 4 or 5 more goals in the match.

Louis Johnson had fashioned some great chances, though his shots either went over or were saved.

Bryan Taylor was brought on along with Olly Cann and Kiren Uppal.

However, the biggest highlight from our subs was Taylor going on a long run down the left as he beat his opponents for pace, before a pass squared to Johnson was frustratingly cleared by Lincoln’s defence.

In all honesty though, the 2nd half was a lot quieter than the first, and bar that goal and the missed chances, there was honestly just not a lot to comment on…so, well I guess yeah, that’s that.

Feels quite abrupt, but sometimes that is just what happens.

It was 3 points for the Steelmen though, and a clean sheet to go with it, and you can’t have any complaints at that fact!

Up next, we travel to Ossett United for our first match of November, and although I won’t be there, the players will be, and hopefully you will be there too.

Best of luck, make the most of your week, and I will see you at the Hollou for the match against Bradford PA!

Up the Steelmen!
