No midweek matches means both the players and fans have had chance to settle down, but we are back to it this Saturday as we travel to Ossett

The 2nd youngest side in the division, having been founded in 2018 following the merger of Ossett Town and Ossett Albion, Ossett United instantly hit the ground running

Their first season was in the NPL East, and they managed to finish the season in 5th, losing to Pontefract Collieries in the play-offs.

The following two seasons were curtailed by COVID-19, with the Sheepicorns (Winner of the most…let’s say unique, nickname award) ending the 2019-20 season in 18th after 28 matches

Followed by the 2020-21 season ending after 8 games with Ossett rock bottom of the league on just 8 points, which was followed by them, along with Dunston, Brighouse, Pickering, Pontefract, Marske and Tadcaster all being transferred to the NPL East.

This inaugural season of the NPL east saw Ossett United end the season in 9th place, but the more interesting fact is who the top goalscorer was that season.

Marske United’s Adam Boyes!

Since then, Ossett have floated around mid-table in every campaign, never reaching the heights of the play-offs whilst also comfortably evading relegation (bar the 23-24 season where they, along with 4 other clubs, were all within 3 points of each other at the foot of the league.)

The only trophy Ossett have picked up since their recent founding was the West Riding County Cup, which they got in the 2018-19 season by beating Guiseley AFC in the final.

REDCAR RECAP

No photo unfortunately for this preview, not great I know, but onto the Steelmen

28 goals scored and 7 wins in 8 means we are still the league leaders, with the gap over second placed Matlock now at 4 points.

The next month for the Steelmen sees us face Ossett, Bradford PA, Brighouse, North Ferriby and Blyth Town.

Additionally, we get closer to the reveal of who we face in the North Riding senior cup, with either Fishburn Park or Richmond Town set to host us…at some point.

Adam Boyes is still top of the Step 4 goalscorers table, and 2nd in the country overall.

As a club, we are also top of the goal scoring table too, reaching over 100 goals this calendar year and being the first to breach the 50 goal mark for the season.

Hopefully, this form does continue forever, and with how the team is playing, that may be more of a fact than fiction.

I won’t see you on Saturday, but I will see you again soon.

If you too can’t make it to the Ossett match, then don’t fret, as there will be something online to keep you updated!

Take care, and up the Steelmen!
