It says a lot about our form that we can start a month with a 5-1 win and then somehow improve on that and start the following month with a 6-0 victory...and yet here we are

I followed 4 matches whilst away in Germany, 3 being live at different grounds, and our match vs Ossett being the other one via 𝕏

Somehow, I managed to miss 2 live screamers in those matches, and also missed out on watching the Steelmen score 6 without reply…just my luck.

Thankfully, we have Dave Edler who runs Just A Sec TV, so I have a nice highlight reel to use for this report.

The beginning of the game saw both sides pressing quickly for the opener, with Ossett defending deep preventing us from making any real threat on goal, albeit with Louis Johnson, Owen Burns, Mark Anderson and Oscar Fletcher all working together to move the ball forwards.

Ossett’s first real chance came in the form of a deep long throw that was nodded into the box, but after some brief chaos it was quickly caught and held by Josh Mazfari, who has been in great form as of late, who was making his 70th appearance for the Steelmen.

Not long after this save we were up the other end, with Curtis Round whipping in a corner that was cleared back out to him, though he was in an offside position

Quickly after and we had another corner, following some decent link-up play between Burns and Johnson.

This corner was again whipped in, though it was promptly headed clear by an Ossett defender to Mark Anderson, who saw his ball back into the box caught by Ossett’s keeper.

We had another chance again, with some passing in the middle of the Ossett half finding Curtis Round on the left wing, who put a ball into the box that narrowly evaded Bradley Fewster’s head and instead went into the keeper’s hands.

We kept peppering away at Ossett’s goal, but their keeper was pulling off an inspired performance, making some decent stops to keep the high-scoring Steelmen at bay.

However, we finally broke the deadlock as a Louis Johnson ball into the box was found at the back post by a mix of Adam Boyes, the Ossett keeper and an Ossett defender, with our top scoring striker able to ultimately bundle the ball over the line in what was a chaotic few seconds of the match. We at last led in a game where we could already have had 3 or more.

We kept the pressure up, with a Mark Anderson free kick just going over the bar, and a deep free kick from Mark not long after was promptly followed by the half-time whistle.

A slender lead, but a lead nonetheless, and more importantly, 45 minutes still to play!

Somehow, six was on the low end of our potential goal tally

The second half began with a lot more attacking prowess from Redcar, with the opening highlight being a flick from Louis Johnson in the box that nearly caught the keeper out, forcing him to scramble and push the ball away from the goal.

Some more great saves from Ossett’s keeper, Aleks Petrovic, followed, as he produced stop after stop to keep the score the same.

Ossett began to get back in the game, with a flurry of chances pushing our defence to their best, with the key moment being a block on the line from Danni Lay to keep our goal empty.

We eventually got another goal though, as a Mark Anderson corner was whipped in to the box, and it fell for Louis Johnson who turned and put the ball into the far corner to double our lead.

Almost instantly after that goal and we had a third, as we won a penalty that Fewster comfortably put into the bottom corner, sending the Ossett keeper the wrong way.

1-0 in the 60th minute, 3-0 in the 65th, this habit of quick-fire goals might actually be real.

Fewster then got his 2nd goal of the afternoon, starting on the left wing he produced numerous step overs to evade the defender, and followed it up by cutting inside and drilling a shot low into the goal.

We nearly made it 5-0 soon after that strike, with Boyes getting the ball following a long lob over the top, and after his strike was parried back out to him, he laid it off to Fewster who saw his powerful effort tipped over brilliantly by the keeper.

However, those two players did combine to get our actual fifth goal, as Boyes was able to get the ball and slid a pass into the middle of the box where Fewster was able to sweep it home to bag himself a hat trick.

However, the moment of the game wasn’t a save, and it wasn’t a strike from Fewster. It was our sixth and final goal.

Out on the right, Bryan Taylor got the ball after a quick tussle, took a touch and produced a goal of the season contender as he curled and lifted the ball into the top left corner, over the diving arms of Petrovic.

The celebrations that followed saw every on-field Redcar player run over to congratulate Taylor, including our own keeper. Seeing Mazfari that far forwards is definitely a new one.

That strike was the final bit of action for the game, and it meant we got another three points on the board, another clean sheet, and another six goals to add to the ever-growing tally.

Up next, we host Bradford Park Avenue on Saturday in another 3pm kick off where we look to both further extend our lead at the top of the table, and also make up for the cup defeat on penalties to B.P.A. from the start of September.

Hope to see you there, if not then there will be live updates on our 𝕏 (Twitter) page.

Up the Steelmen!
