REDCAR ATHLETIC 4-0 KENDAL TOWN

Read our report as the Steelmen hit four against Kendal Town.

“Simply brilliant!” The boss quipped. “A brilliant start to the first game of the season.”

“It’s always really difficult to go up against an opposition who are unknown, like I spoke about before.

“They’re a very good team Kendal, don’t let the scoreline fool you, they’re a very good team. They play some good football, and I’m sure they’ll be right up there by the end of the season.

“I’ve got to speak about our lads, because every one of them, man to man, were fantastic.

“Our finishing was excellent, our midfield areas were good, the passing was brilliant to watch. We scored some great goals and defended well.

“Everything you would want out of a first game, was there today. I can’t fault the lads. They’ve worked really, really hard there. They’ve stood up and been counted, and I couldn’t have asked for anymore.”

A fantastic performance as a collective, Brad Fewster made the headlines with a well-taken brace, the boss lauding his raw talent as a forward, but quick to share such praise across the forward line.

“Brad was brought into this club because everyone in this area knows how good he is in front of goal.” Jarrett said. “You’ve just seen again today how good he is.”

“Two goals today. His finish for his second was a proper Brad Fewster goal. He’s a poacher.

“I just can’t fault the kid. His movement was good, his hold up play was good. He’s led the line fantastically.

“He always gets looked at because of the goals, but if you look at the midfield today, Oscar Fletcher played when he’s tweaked a ligament only eight days ago. I thought he was immense today.

“You’ve got Chay Liddle and ‘Sparky’ (Mark Anderson) in there too, and that’s what I mean when I say I can’t pick out individuals.

“The collective team performance today was up there with one of the best opening day performances I’ve had in years.”
