British Rowing have announced that their Team GB Beach Sprint and Coastal Rowing team trials will be introduced to Redcar for the first time in 2023.

The trials – the likes of which tend only to be available in the south – will be coming to Majuba on 10th/11th June this summer in an exciting new direction for the town.

Kendra Quinn, who has pushed for more aquatic opportunities in Redcar and East Cleveland said: “It’s so important we put Redcar in a great light. Other places are desperate for the beach sprints to go there instead in future, and I think we really need to fight to keep them coming back here, because we are so great!

“British Rowing do everything in the south, and this is the first time they have been persuaded to look at other areas.

“We really need to make more of Redcar now the High St has died a death and the Steelworks have gone, hence I was desperate to get them to come here.

“It’s something different to bring people in and make a little cash for local businesses. I know they will get a warm welcome from us all.”
