The post-match thoughts of First Team boss Carl Jarrett on victory over Penrith.
An emphatic response to Wednesday night’s defeat – in a typically fruitless fixture – Carl Jarrett lauded the ‘work-rate’ and ‘passion’ of his valiant Steelmen.
The boss was pleased to see a worrying trend of poor starts nipped in the bud, Oscar Fletcher opening the scoring before the break in some style.
The midfielder continued his stellar performance with another double, his first hat-trick in senior football, as Bradley Fewster and Jack Blackford joined him on the scoresheet.

A first victory over Penrith since the days of Steve Connolly, it would be hard for Carl Jarrett not to have had a smile on his face, even more so with such a statement following defeat to North Shields.
He labelled each and every player as ‘excellent,’ arguing confidence is now at a high heading into another home bout with Newcastle Benfield on Tuesday evening.

“I thought the lads were excellent today.” Jarrett said. “The work-rate and passion was through the roof from them all.”
“I’d struggle to pick a Man of the Match at the end!”

On individual performances, he continued: “Oscar will take the accolades, having scored three, but I thought ‘Bosh’s’ work-rate up top – coming back from four or five games out – was excellent.”
“I thought Chay Liddle was superb in the middle of the park, and we defended really well. Kev (Burgess) was brilliant. The distribution from (Josh) Mazfari in goal too.
“We just felt like we needed to be on the front foot, and to be fair to the lads, that started from minute one. We were excellent.”
Of course, the standout performance came from Oscar Fletcher, the 19-year-old netting a hat-trick from the midfield with three sensational finishes.
The boss had high praise for his ability, branding him a ‘great asset for the club,’ and of course, ‘a great player.’

“Fair play to the kid.” Jarrett said. “He’s gotten himself in the right positions, and to be fair, his finishes were excellent.”
“The first one, to open his body up and put it in the top corner, and his second, where he’s volleyed it. Excellent.
“I just thought his overall play was good today as well. His passing, his touches. His defending.
“He fully deserved that hat-trick today.”

“Now we have to go again on Tuesday, and hopefully get a win again.”
