Dan Lanning weaved a slim thread of hope for the travelling Tynesiders in the opening exchanges of the second half, Callum Guy quick to drive home a sensational third and put the game beyond doubt.
Redcar Athletic 3-1 Newcastle Blue Star
Goals from Oscar Fletcher, Bradley Fewster and Callum Guy guided Redcar Athletic to victory against Newcastle Blue Star.
Keen to praise the efforts of Newcastle Blue Star, even in defeat, Carl Jarrett admitted his expectations of a tough game certainly came to pass.
The boss talked up the quality of the Northern League and its roster, arguing Blue Star fought to the death in an attempt to salvage a point against his triumphant Steelmen.
“We expected a very hard game tonight.” He said.
“We looked at these at the beginning of the season, and we said they would be up there in the playoffs. It is a long season as we know, but they’re a very good team.
“You could see the pressure they put us under. Especially in the second half.
“It’s a great three points in my eyes. This league is very tough.
“I was talking to their manager Marc Nash earlier about the quality of teams that we play against. How they push you all the way.
“Blue Star kept on going right to the very death.”
A game hung in the balance come Dan Lanning’s second half strike, Carl Jarrett hailed Callum Guy as the difference maker, admitting his strike was ‘special.’
“It was a bit of brilliance from Guysa that changed the game.” Jarrett said. “Before that, I thought it could have gone either way.”
“It was just perfect. A great finish. And it just put us on the front foot.
“Blue Star kept pressing us, and I thought we sat back a little bit at times.
“We’re doing really well at the present minute with a lot of players missing. A lot of key players injured.
“I’m delighted with the three points.”
