The boss spoke to Club Media ahead of our Pitching In Northern Premier League debut.
Carl Jarrett says he expects a tough test as Redcar Athletic open their Pitching In Northern Premier League campaign away to the famous Blyth Spartans this Saturday.
The bout will be the Steelmen’s first at Step Four in what is admittedly a relatively short history, with the boss keen to mark the occasion with a big three points.
Known as the most-famous non-league football club in England, Blyth Spartans have faced a turbulent period off the pitch – compounded by two successive relegations.
Regardless, the boss urged his players and supporters not to underestimate the Spartans.
He praised the Green Army for their summer turnaround, heralding the Steelmen’s opening tie as a tough one, but one he’d seek to win nonetheless.
“Don’t be fooled by anything that’s happened over at Blyth Spartans.” He said.
“I never am.
“There’s been a big turnaround up there to try and get a team together. Fair play to what they’ve done.
“We’ve just got to take care of ourselves. We’ve had two training sessions this week to prepare, and we’ll be going to Croft Park aiming to start the league well.
“I should have Curtis (Round) back. I’ll have a full squad and more to leave out next week. That’s what I wanted for this club. You need good competition for places at this level.
“I do believe going to Blyth Spartans will be a tough test. It won’t be straight forward.
“We’ve got to do everything right off the pitch, whilst the players try to do it on it.”
