We took a look at North Shields in the latest instalment of 'The Lowdown.'
Inconsistent – but by no means inept – the Robins will be no easy task for Carl Jarrett’s Redcar Athletic, even with the sole unbeaten record across the Northern League at stake.

WHO ARE YA?
North Shields
Formed in 1896 as North Shields Athletic, the Tyneside outfit prove to be one of the oldest clubs in this division.
Once a force to be reckoned with in North East football, Athletic – as they were then known – transcended the pyramid from the South Shields and District League, before the Great War hampered their success.
From such dispair came the formation of Preston Colliery FC emerged, a club which would later be renamed to form the North Shields AFC that exists today.

The Robins enjoyed extensive local support in their early days, with over 12’000 watching a derby bout with South Shields in 1936.
Their pinnacle of success came at Wembley in 1969, as goals from Richie Hall and Brian Joicey clinched the FA Amateur Cup over current football league side, Sutton United.
North Shields went on to turn their Amateur Cup triumph into a historic double. Adam Forster netted the winning goal in the FA Vase final, as the Robins overturned an early deficit to sink Glossop North End by the same scoreline.
The Tynesiders most recent contribution to their history books is rather less favourable, as a strong season in the second division of the Northern Premier League was marred by an inability to meet ground grading, and one of the clubs’ greatest modern achievements proved all but wiped out.
CURRENT FORM

As we said, the Robins are inconsistent.
Falling to defeat at the Calvert Stadium but a week ago, North Shields turned their fortunes around with an incredible victory over Shildon at the weekend, their record currently sat at three wins, draws and losses apiece.

Redcar Athletic – in a stark contrast – dropped points for only the second time at the weekend, held by a well-equipped Blyth Town, who themselves beat Shildon at Dean Street last night.
NORTH SHIELDS 2-2 REDCAR ATHLETIC
An instant classic, for all the wrong reasons.
Read our report as three red cards and four goals saw the spoils shared at the Daren Persson Stadium last season.

ONE-TO-WATCH
JORDAN LASHLEY
That’s a name that will strike fear into the hearts of some.
A promising, young forward, Jordan Lashley made his name – at least from a Redcar persuasion – at Green Lane some years ago, coming off the bench to score four times in twenty minutes for Ashington.
Since, Lashley has regularly performed against the Steelmen, netting once and laying on a further assist in a 5-2 defeat at the hands of Heaton Stannington.
REDCAR ATHLETIC 2-1 NORTH SHIELDS
Late drama. Our report as Layton Watts struck in stoppage time to sink North Shields at Green Lane.
