We took another look at the four-time Isuzu FA Vase winners in ‘The Lowdown.’
After ten days of rest, football returns for Redcar Athletic with a trip to Hillheads Park to take on Whitley Bay.

WHO ARE YA?
Whitley Bay
The Northern League is a competition steeped in history, home to many a club with celebrity. Whitley Bay are no exception.
Formed in 1950 as Whitley Bay Athletic, early successes in the Northern Football Alliance and Northumberland Senior Cup would be paled into insignificance in the club’s later years.
The Bay rose to prominence in the FA Amateur Cup, claiming a reputation as a top non-league side with consistent quarter-final appearances.

In 2002, the club claimed their first in a series of national successes, clinching the coveted FA Vase with a slender victory against Tiptree United at Villa Park.
The Bay soon continued their affinity with the prestigious competition, claiming a hat-trick of titles in 2011 with a 3-2 victory over Coalville Town, having thrashed Wroxham and swept aside Glossop North End in the two years prior.
CURRENT FORM

A good return from November, Whitley Bay host the Steelmen three games unbeaten.
The Seahorses came from behind to earn a richly-deserved point against Boro Rangers, sandwiched by victories over Tow Law Town and Northallerton.

It was defeat on the road for the Steelmen last time out. Darlington Road has proved forever an unhappy hunting ground, and again Redcar Athletic returned home empty-handed.
WHITLEY BAY 3-2 REDCAR ATHLETIC
A hard-fought classic. Sweltering heat, five goals, but unfortunately, no points.

FUN FACT
DID YOU KNOW: Whitley Bay’s famous FA Vase three-peat is the first of any side since Billericay Town in the competition’s founding years. Town won their third successive title in 1977, beating Sheffield 1-0.
