Defensive midfielder becomes Carl Jarrett's sixth winter addition.
Redcar Athletic are delighted to announce the signing of former Hebburn Town man, Chay Liddle.
The well-regarded defensive midfielder pens a contract to remain at the club until the end of the 2024/25 season, following the mutual termination of his deal with the Tynesiders.
Shining as a youth prospect with Billingham Synthonia, Chay made his name at Spennymoor Town, lifting the Northern League title in his very first season.
The 31-year-old soon opted for a move to Marske United, playing under the watchful eye of Carl Jarrett, where he repeated the feat to claim yet another piece of silverware.
Despite his Northern League success, Chay is arguably best known for his four year tenure at Dean Street, during Shildon’s time in the Northern Premier League East.
The defensive midfielder clocked a century of appearances for the Durham-outfit, only departing last season following the club’s relegation back to step five.
Having donned the yellow and black of the Hornets since June, Chay makes the switch in favour of a Teesside return, bringing masses of experience and potential to a new look Redcar side.
On his move, Liddle admitted his excitement, offering both the ongoing project and the management as factors in his decision.
“It’s an exciting project that Gary and Dale are building here,” Chay said: “and you can see the ambition they have for the club.”
”Having played for Carl before, I know he demands high standards and won’t accept anything else.
“I’m looking forward to getting started.“
Another well-travelled midfielder, Chay is familiar with First Team Manager Carl Jarrett through a shared period at Marske United.
The Redcar boss offered his enthusiasm at capturing the signature of the defensive midfielder, adding that his quality will fuel more competition for places within the roster.
“Chay Liddle has bags full of experience at this level and above.” He said.
”He’s a winner and a great lad, plus an excellent footballer, and will bring great competition to the squad.”
All at Redcar Athletic are delighted to see Chay Liddle on board, and wish him every success in red and navy.
Good to have you, Chay!
