Experienced midfielder breaks new ground in making the switch to the Redcar seafront.
Redcar Athletic are absolutely thrilled to announce the signing of well-renowned midfield man, Mark Anderson.
Affectionately known as ‘Sparky,’ the 34-year-old signs a contract to keep him at the club until the end of the 2024/25 season.
Hailing from Durham, Mark Anderson spouted from the Academy of Light in Sunderland, making the move across the Atlantic Ocean in 2008 to continue his development in ‘college soccer.’
Mark’s senior career began in 2012 when he was picked up by the Fort Lauderdale Strikers in the NASL Combine, a club of which he eventually signed on professional terms following unfettered success.
The midfielder quickly became a favourite amongst the Strikes’ supporters, building a reputation for netting spectacular goals, which he brought back to the UK at the start of 2016.
In his eight year stay at the Brewery Field, Mark twice proved an intrinsic part in Spennymoor Town’s promotion, chipping in from the middle of the park as the club rose through the ranks to National League North.
Dropping down three levels to play for the Steelmen – following a mutual cancellation of his contract with Moors – Mark admitted Redcar’s ambition to follow in his former club’s footsteps proved key in his decision to sign.
“It’s an exciting time for myself and the club.” He said.
“After deciding to leave Spennymoor after eight years, I wanted to play for a club that has ambition and wants to progress. Knowing the management team and a few of the players makes the transition a lot easier.
“We need to finish the season strong. It’s all about winning and that’s the mentality we need throughout the club.”
A well-travelled midfielder, Mark linked up with current Steelmen boss Carl Jarrett on a short-term loan down the road at Mount Pleasant in 2021.
Despite making just three appearances, Mark captivated the Seasiders’ fan-base, and proved his worth massively to the man in charge.
Keen to see the 34-year-old on board at the club, Jarrett proclaimed the singing may be one of the finest in his illustrious management career.
He said: “Sparky signing for Redcar is right up there with the best signings I have made at any club.”
“To be playing at North Conference and signing for Redcar shows what we are trying to build here. Another top player! Well done to the club.”
Everyone at Redcar Athletic is thrilled to see Mark Anderson put pen to paper, and excited to see what he can produce in his time at the club.
Welcome to the Steelmen, Sparky.
