Match Report: Redcar Athletic Ladies 1-5 Guisborough Town

Redcar Athletic Ladies entertained Guisborough Town in the second round of the North Riding County Cup.
Before kick off, both teams gathered around the centre circle to pay their respects to Rodger Draycott of our home kit sponsor, Draycott and Kirk.
Rodger sadly passed away before Christmas, and we would all like to pass on our sincere condolences to Rodger’s family, friends and colleagues.
In gale force conditions, this was never going to be pretty.
The Steelwomen attacked with the wind in the first half – aiming to take full advantage of the poor conditions – and made the perfect start on just 4 minutes, when Olivia Bullock had the simple task of heading into an empty net, after Adele Hughes’ free kick was fumbled by Guisborough’s keeper.
With a gale force head wind, it was almost impossible for Guisborough to get out, but when they did, they made good progress up the field and created a couple of half chances.
Redcar’s profligacy in front of goal would ultimately cost them, just as it did last week at Huntington, with Olivia Bullock spurning two great chances.
After the break it was a different game. This time Guisborough made all the running, and it was Redcar who couldn’t get out.
Five goals in 20 minutes killed the game off for the visitors. Redcar’s one second half chance came and went very late on, but it would’ve been a mere consolation goal.

It’s back to league action for our Ladies, who travel to face Old Malton St Mary’s next weekend.
