The midfielder offered his thoughts on the midweek visit of Birtley Town.

Joe Taylor stressed the importance of taking each game as it comes, as Redcar Athletic host Birtley Town at Green Lane.

The Hoops’ visit to the Redcar seafront comes days before a gargantuan clash with current table-toppers, Boro Rangers, the midfielder adamant to focus solely on the task at hand.

Sat two points behind the men from Phoenix Park, and due to meet on Saturday afternoon, victory on Tuesday evening would see the Steelmen into their biggest match of the season with the advantage.

Still, Birtley have historically enjoyed their meetings with Redcar Athletic, winning by a cricket score on an ill-fated opening day last year, and completing a double in April on their march to the play-offs.

Now stuck in the infancy of a relegation battle, their talent cannot be underestimated, and Joe Taylor certainly knows that.

Redcar Athletic 1-1 West Auckland Town

Read our report as Redcar Athletic edge out West Auckland Town in a dramatic penalty shootout.

Credited with the Steelmen’s lone goal in Saturday’s Isuzu FA Vase triumph, and in some style, Joe admitted Redcar would have to be at their best to beat the Hoops, for now ignoring the looming threat that is Boro Rangers.

The midfielder opened our latest pre-match presser on a question, of course, about his world-class strike against West Auckland Town, telling Ash Stone it was almost spur of the moment.

“I’m not quite sure why I shot from there.” Joe said. “Especially on my left foot!”

“Things opened up nicely, so I’ve just hit it, and luckily caught it nice!”

FIXTURES AND RESULTS

Onto the real business at hand, Joe admitted the approach was to be no different when Birtley Town come to Green Lane.

He confessed the boss had a game plan, and he and his teammates would follow it, whether it be against Birtley Town, Boro Rangers, or Manchester City (we might have added that last one for dramatic effect).

“We approach it the same as any other game.” He said.

“Follow the game plan, work hard and hopefully the result follows.

“We always have the same mindset, to go and win every game we play.

“We know where we want to be, but ultimately, we need to win as many games as we can to do that.”

Quizzed on the looming threat of league-leaders Boro Rangers at the weekend, perhaps the most important game in the club’s history to date, Joe dismissed it as something to ignore for the time being.

The midfielder stressed the importance of taking each game as it comes, and the task at hand has to be preparing to face Birtley Town.

“We’ll take it game at a time.” Joe affirmed.

“It’s pointless looking ahead, because in this league, if you turn up and you’re not at it, you’ll get beat. Regardless of who you’re playing.”
