Redcar Athletic will host Guisborough Town in an Emirates FA Cup Preliminary Round replay following a goalless draw at the Kevin Edward KGV Stadium.
The first half offered little of interest to either set of supporters, with play brought to life after the restart.
Redcar twice struck the woodwork through Curtis Round and Adam Boyes, but failed to make the necessary breakthrough to avoid a replay on Wednesday evening.
A tie eagerly anticipated by those in both red and white and the Steelmen’s bold sky blue, chances were at a premium in the opening half hour.
Bryan Taylor was booked for a soft challenge out on the flank – the first of his career – whilst John Howard’s strike from range raised no alarms.
Oscar Fletcher was the first to test the grasp of Ryan Catterick. He drove hard and low but straight at the former Marske United man, who stooped to make a routine save.
A flurry of chances after the restart soon made up for the distinct lack of early excitement – from a Redcar persuasion at least.
Curtis Round struck the crossbar with a headed effort across goal, whilst Danni Lay fired high and wide from the midfield.
Bradley Fewster followed suit with a similar strike into the crowd, as Ryan Catterick reacted quickly with an outstretched leg to deny Oscar Fletcher.
The woodwork came to Guisborough’s aid once again when Adam Boyes stole possession on the left flank.
He cut inside and beat his former teammate, but could only watch in disappointment as his effort rattled the upright.
Redcar would come no closer as the minutes ticked by, the pressure mounting with each passing second as the word ‘replay’ began to be muttered.
Josh Mazfari was almost caught out when a defensive mistake fed Kurtis Howes, who couldn’t capitalise, leaving the score to be settled at the Hollou Sports Stadium on Wednesday evening.
