We took a look at Tow Law Town in our latest Match Preview.

Redcar Athletic this afternoon host a struggling Tow Law Town at the B&D Interiors Stadium, one of only three home league games to come as that coveted title seems ever more possible.

Tow Law Town

Coined the Lawyers, Tow Law Town were formed in 1890 as Tow Law FC, plying their trade in local district leagues, before joining the Northern League over 100 years ago in 1920.

The club have remained a Northern League member since, winning the first division on three occasions, and the second division a further twice, yet never tasting promotion – or facing relegation – to a different league.

The Lawyers boast no major honours in their long history, yet do have the accolade of a Wembley visit to boot.

In 1998, Tow Law Town became the smallest town ever to reach a major cup final, taking 4’000 supporters to the prestigious London ground in the FA Vase, where they lost by a single goal to Tiverton Town.

DID YOU KNOW: Tow Law Town’s home, Ironworks Road, is situated roughly 997 feet above sea level, making it the ground at the highest altitude in the UK.

CURRENT FORM

You’d have to go back to December to find the last time Tow Law Town picked up a point in the Northern League, though that’s not to mean the County Durham side aren’t fighting for their lives.

The Lawyers were narrowly beaten by a single goal on Tuesday night at the hands of Whitley Bay, losing most of their games by slender margins in an improvement from last season.

Tow Law’s last victory was against Crook Town, a Jamie O’Brien penalty sealing the spoils on Boxing Day.

Redcar Athletic have perhaps the opposite record, last tasting defeat in December, and looking to go ten games unbeaten with a further win this afternoon.

The Steelmen travelled to the Westmorland Flooring Stadium to face play-off chasing Kendal Town on Tuesday, some labelling the 2-0 triumph our best performance of the season.

THE FINAL PUSH

Four games. Four people. One amazing price.

PREVIOUS HISTORY

This afternoon will be the sixth Northern League clash between the two teams, Redcar currently with their noses ahead at three wins to the Lawyers’ two.

Tow Law were spirited when they last visited the B&D Interiors Stadium, putting up a stern effort, yet falling to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Adam Boyes and Curtis Round

Not much can be said about the Steelmen’s trip to Ironworks Road in September. It was a routine afternoon is perhaps the best you’re going to get.

Jack Blackford and Mark Anderson netted the goals on the day.

Instead, we’ll look back to 2023, and an emphatic eight goal haul in County Durham, a tally that today would take Redcar past the 100 goal mark.

TEAM NEWS

Carl Jarrett could opt for some rotation this afternoon, with Redcar struck by a number of lesser injuries in the past few weeks.

The boss admitted a number of his players were struggling with ‘niggles,’ and hinted that some might get a much needed rest on Saturday afternoon.

“We’ve got a couple of niggles after that game on Tuesday night.” He said.

”We’ll have a look, give them a rest, and go again on Saturday.”

One player who will feature in no capacity is Mark Anderson, who remains sidelined by suspension after a straight red card against Birtley Town.
