The assistant boss offered his thoughts on our 3-0 win against Tow Law Town.
Dave McTiernan hailed another three points on the road to promotion as Redcar Athletic beat a struggling Tow Law Town.
The Steelmen were hampered by a well-drilled backline, but still struck three times in the second half through Bradley Fewster and Nathan Guru.
It was a long ranged effort from Fewster which finally broke the long deadlock, the forward catching Thomas Orton unaware with the glare of the winter sun.
A lucky deflection off Oscar Fletcher teed the ball up for Nathan Guru to drive home a rare goal, before Bradley Fewster netted his double in the dying moments of play.
Assistant Manager Dave McTiernan admitted it was far from a pretty performance, but was still pleased to see his players grind out the win.
“The most important thing is three points at this stage of the season, when you’re going for the title.” He said.
“That’s what we said before the game: make sure you bring the three points back into the changing room, and they did, so fair play.
“We were a little bit flat in the first half. The conditions played a part, the high winds, etcetera.
“We told them at half time what we expected of them, and the lads went out and delivered.
“Brad got his two goals. He played well. The lads all played well in that second half. Credit goes to them all. We were solid.
“I thought Josh was excellent today. Everything that he needed to do he did well. He had great concentration, especially since he wasn’t worked that much.
“It’s now just about getting back on the training ground, making sure we do things right.
“We’ve got two weeks to prepare for another big game in Boro Rangers, so I’m looking forward to it!”
