Redcar Athletic's third foray into the Emirates FA Cup begins at the So-Trak Stadium.

After a poor start to the Northern League season, the Steelmen have an opportunity to start afresh, as they face Tadcaster Albion in the Extra-Preliminary Round of the Emirates FA Cup.

The world’s longest running domestic cup competition, the Emirates FA Cup is the pinnacle of English football, with the coveted trophy competed for by over 700 clubs.

Redcar’s history within the competition is short, but certainly not sweet, as both previous campaigns have ended in defeat to cup nemesis, Seaham Red Star.

This afternoon will be the first match in the prestigious tournament under the reigns of Gary Forster, who’ll be seeking an elusive second Emirates FA Cup victory, to join an emphatic win on debut.

Here’s everything you need to know about our Extra-Preliminary Round affair…

WHO ARE YA?

Tadcaster Albion were founded in 1892 as John Smith’s Football Club, named after the brewery.

The club’s home ground, now called the So-Trak Stadium for sponsorship reasons, sits right behind the famous John Smith’s brewery, hence their nickname, the Brewers.

The club floated back and fourth between their two names before the two World Wars, where a second club emerged, and the two amalgamated to form the Tadcaster Albion that exists today.

The Brewers were founder members of the Northern Counties East League, before they clinched promotion to the Northern Premier League in 2016.

With a mere 18 points after 33 games, Tadcaster returned to step five after a poor showing last season.

CURRENT FORM

For Redcar, it was certainly a poor start to an eagerly anticipated season.

Birtley Town left Green Lane with a 4-1 victory, with Joe Thompson’s spectacular strike Athletic’s only consolation.

Tadcaster Albion were also beaten in their previous outing, as Frickley Athletic ran out 4-2 winners at the So-Trak Stadium.

A goal in each half proved too little for the Brewers, as poor defending left the door open for the Blues to take all three points.

Albion’s curtain-raiser also proved an anti-climax, as an away trip to Thackley left a sour taste in the mouth.

LAST TIME OUT

Redcar Athletic have only faced the Brewers once before, visiting the So-Trak Stadium during last year’s pre-season campaign.

Tadcaster Albion were competing in the Northern Premier League East at the time, so the Steelmen coming away with a 4-1 win proved quite a shock.

Isaac Walker inspired the emphatic win, notching his brace either side of the break with a spectacular finish, and then a simple one.

Trialist Elliot Duff proved intrumental to Redcar’s second half dominance, teeing up Walker for his second, before the pair traded places to combine for a third.

Liam Williams came off the bench to add the fourth for Athletic, pouncing on a loose save to compound Albion’s misery, albeit, in pre-season.

A competitve bout, and in knockout football, this afternoon’s game should have a very deffierent feel…

TEAM NEWS

Gary Forster is likely to shift the pack for this afternoon’s affair, following a disappointing start to the season last weekend.

Donny Holdsworth and Joe Ferguson are the only players unavailable through injury, with both expected to make a return before the new year.

Some players will miss the trip due to work commitments, but Forster will have almost a full squad at his disposal yet again.

Jack Norton’s suspension does not carry over into the Emirates FA Cup.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

For those wishing to travel to this afternoon’s match, the So-Trak Stadium can be found using the postcode LS24 9AY.

Gates will open at 1:30pm, ahead of kick-off at 3:00pm. Admission to the ground will cost £7 for adults, £4 for concessions, £2 for juniors, and under-5s get in for free.

If the match ends goalless, there will be a replay at Green Lane the following week. There is no extra-time or penalties in this afternoon’s affair.
