The First Team coach reflects on a hard-fought point in Middlesbrough.
First Team coach Lee Bullock mourned an opportunity missed as Redcar Athletic settled for a point in the sun at Boro Rangers’ Phoenix Park.
Oscar Fletcher had given the Steelmen the lead on the brink of the half, but Stuart Rose prodded home at the back post to see the spoils shared.
Despite the result, Redcar remained six points clear at the top of the Northern League. Shildon were held in similar fashion by play-off chasing Kendal Town.
Victory in Middlesbrough would have seen the Steelmen move eight points clear, and for Lee Bullock, such is the source of the disappointment after a deserved point.
“Obviously, we came looking for the three points.” He said.
“But, when you look at the results, it’s as it was. Unfortunately, we don’t want to keep looking at other results.
“If we’d have produced three points there, we would have been one step closer.
“In the first half, without playing well, we’ve created four great chances. Their ‘keeper has made three unbelievable saves. We stuck a good goal away.
“Second half, it’s a credit to Boro Rangers. They’ve given us a right good game. They were not just going to roll over for us, it was a big game for them too.
“Late on, we couldn’t create any chances after Curtis (Round) hit the post. They’re probably a little bit gutted that they didn’t win it.
“A point is probably what was deserved.”
