The Ladies boss offered his thoughts on victory over Catterick Village Roses.
Ladies boss Matthew Gibson praised the ‘sensational’ forward duo of Olivia Bullock and Farron McPherson in a North Riding Women’s Cup triumph over Catterick Village Roses.
The pair contributed a brace apiece as Redcar Athletic Ladies booked their place in the semifinal, McPherson headlining the bout with a spectacular solo goal.
Ahead inside ten minutes through Olivia Bullock’s sweeping finish, a delightful dink from strike partner Farron McPherson all but killed the contest.
Bullock calmly converted from Ellie Booth’s cross to see the Steelwomen up by three come the break, before McPherson sealed her own brace in some style, picking out the far top corner.
Astute in the face of a rather psychical opponent, manager Matthew Gibson admitted he was thrilled with the girls’ performance.
He said: “I think it got quite scrappy towards the end. As football does.
“The lasses can prevail well in certain situations. We’ve got a good mix in our group.
“I thought they handled Catterick’s physicality really well, and I’m proud of them!”
On his star forward duo, Gibson continued: “They’re playing with each other really well.”
“They’re both good footballers, and they’ve got great chemistry between them.”
“It’s a real blessing that they can do two different jobs. Not just play with each other up top.
“Farron is a very intelligent ‘baller, she can play anywhere, so I’m glad to have her in the team.”
McPherson’s contributions went far beyond that in midfield.
The forward stole the headlines with a spectacular second half goal, taking the ball from within her own half to the edge of the area, and finding the far top corner with an adept strike to match.
“Sensational!” Matthew Gibson said.
“70 yard run, dribble, top corner? You can’t fault that can you? She had a good game today, I was very impressed with her.
“She’s getting better every game, Farron, as they all are.
“I’m proud of each and every one of them.”
