Northallerton or Washington await in Brooks Mileson Memorial League Cup

The Steelmen will face Northallerton or Washington in the second round of the Brooks Mileson Memorial League Cup.

At today’s Northern League AGM, Redcar were given a bye into the second round of the returning league cup, where the winners of the match between Northallerton Town and Washington await.

The competition returns to the calendar for the 2023/24 season following a short hiatus, with both curtailed campaigns and rising costs contributing to its cancellation.

The League Cup is open to teams from across the Northern League, with the Steelmen one of 22 teams to be awarded a bye at random into the second round.

Redcar’s opponents will be decided at an unknown date, as division two outfit Washington visit The Calvert’s Stadium to take on fellow division one club, Northallerton Town.

The 2021/22 season saw the last iteration of the league cup, with only clubs from division one taking part.

Athletic’s campaign was brought to a premature end at the hands of eventually promoted side, Consett, who hit five at Green Lane.

The dates for this year’s competition remain undecided, with more clarity to come following the fixture release on Tuesday morning.
