The boss offered his thoughts on our North Riding Senior Cup Second Round triumph.

Carl Jarrett was delighted with the efforts of a much-changed Redcar Athletic in a North Riding Senior Cup win over Northallerton Town.

Goals from Jack Blackford, Bradley Fewster and Jake Stott booked the Steelmen a spot in the quarterfinals, the latter one of three to make his full debut on the night.

Two weeks on from a bitter defeat to West Auckland Town, Carl Jarrett made five changes to his eleven, proclaiming the need to give others an opportunity to exceed.

Ben Taylor made his first competitive start for the club between the sticks, new addition Priestley Griffiths took up his place within the midfield, whilst a first start for Jake Stott was rewarded with a hat-trick.

Northallerton Town 3-6 Redcar Athletic

Our report as Jake Stott’s first start hat-trick saw Redcar safely through to the North Riding Senior Cup quarterfinals.

Jarrett admitted the tie proved a fantastic opportunity to give some of his squad a much-needed rest, praising those that stepped up for their efforts in what proved a dramatic nine-goal thriller.

“I asked them to get the ball down and play a lot of football tonight.” He said. “The pitch wasn’t as bad as what it normally is when you come up here.

“We had people playing in different positions. I wanted to change the team around, give lads a rest and give others a chance to see what they can do.

“I’ve said it before, it’s a cup competition. In tournament football, it’s just about going through, winning the game, and we did that.

“To be fair, I thought we played some good stuff. Second half especially.

“There were some great goals tonight. Jake Stott on his first start, scoring a hat-trick.

“Young Cam came in for another start. He hasn’t had many of them this season, but I thought he played really well.

FIXTURES AND RESULTS

“Obviously, Priestley started his first game for us. He did really well in the center of midfield. Young Ben in goal. Not even 18-years-old, he did really well. We had Fletcher knocking into center half.

“We’ve changed the team around a lot. I wanted to make sure we kept everyone fresh, to give lads chances to prove why they’re at the club.

“I thought they all stood up tonight. It’s a great win for us.”
