The homegrown midfielder scored the sole goal as Middlesbrough toppled Chelsea at the Riverside Stadium.

Hayden Hackney, born and bred in the town of Redcar, notched the winner in Middlesbrough’s Carabao Cup semi-final clash with Premier League Chelsea.

The midfielder broke into the box late to stroke home a deft ball from Isaiah Jones, offering his side the advantage in the two legged semi-final tie.

Hackney, 21, was born and raised in the town of Redcar, and boasts a sponsorship from the Steelmen for the current campaign.

His goal gives Boro a glimmer of hope at a trip to Wembley, should they see out another 90 minutes at Stamford Bridge without defeat.

Middlesbrough last reached the final of the League Cup in 2004, where they ran out 2-1 victors over Bolton Wanderers.
