The popular defender shared his insight on his former side ahead of derby day.

Nathan Guru afforded high praise to his former boss at Guisborough Town, the two Teesside rivals set to meet at the KGV Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Redcar Athletic were dealt the short end of the stick in head-to-head matters last year –  clocking a lone point across the two fixtures – Guru and his colleagues now in search of a seventh league game unbeaten in a dramatic change of fortunes.

Donning the red and white as recent as 2022, the Steelmen’s reigning Player of the Season conceded Guisborough would be well drilled, and eager to spring an upset, but he and the squad would approach it no different nonetheless.

“This season, the manager and coaching staff have drilled into us that every game we need to be at it.” Nathan said.

“With it being a derby, it’s always that little bit better winning, and knowing we are the best team in the area at our level.”

Carl Jarrett: Shildon win shows ‘character’

The Redcar boss reacts to a theatrical victory under the lights in Shildon.

On the opposition themselves, he continued: “I’ve played for Steve Bell (Guisborough Town Manager) not only at Guisborough, but Thornaby too.”

“I know one hundred percent it will be a tough game.

“They will work hard, and be very good on second balls. We need to be at it to beat them.”

Tasting a season first defeat in the Emirates FA Cup last weekend, Redcar Athletic sprung back to fighting form with a dramatic late win over Shildon on Tuesday evening.

A sixth-straight win in the Northern League, Nathan Guru believes such success will only continue as the season progresses.
