The first team boss admitted Silsden will prove a tough ask for the Steelmen, but expressed confidence in his side ahead of the club’s second venture into the tournament proper of the Isuzu FA Vase.

The Sils currently sit second in the Northern Counties East League Premier, having spent the majority of the season at the summit, before a string of poor results on the road saw Campion steal top spot.

Their league form puts them in fine standing as one of the favourites to win the competition, something Gary Forster believes his side are capable of overcoming.

Silsden are in fine form in their league, so are quite rightly down as one of the favourites for the competition as a whole, never mind this afternoon.

I think that we can provide them with one of their toughest tests though, and believe that today’s fixture will be one of the picks of the first-round draw. I was half expecting the Match of the Day cameras to be honest!

Given the ability within our ranks, we rightly fancy ourselves against anyone. One of my remits when I came to the club was to provide some entertaining cup runs.

Despite their obscurity to Redcar, Silsden will be familiar opponents for the gaffer, and a few members of the first team squad.

The Cobbydalers faced a hefty defeat at the hands of Guisborough Town during Forster’s tenure at the KGV Ground, with a number of those in the Steelmen’s ranks involved in the boss’s squad.

I have played against Silsden in this competition before, it was in the last week of my tenure at Guisborough Town.

We were struggling with injuries at the time but we managed to race into a five goal lead and go through in the tie.

A number of our players, and current owner, were involved in my squad that day. Donny Holdsworth bagged a brace, and Gary Wood picked up his usual yellow card.

We received a warm welcome, and if I remember rightly, the celebrations of the victory were as enjoyable as the result itself.

Hopefully we have similar scenes come teatime this afternoon.

Looking towards the Sils’ visit as Redcar boss, Forster spoke of the importance of strong support, something he has been extremely grateful for during his time at the helm.

Crowds at Green Lane breached 300 on average last season, whilst a pre-season bout with Hartlepool United in July broke the record for the highest attendance at the stadium in history.

Forster has urged fans to do their bit for the club once again, and show up in numbers on Saturday afternoon to help push the Steelmen over the line in what proves their toughest test this campaign to date.

We have picked up in form recently, only losing two of our last twelve, but we are still very much a work in process. I am sure we can serve up some great football in the coming months.

Hopefully that starts on Saturday afternoon, with what looks an exceptional tie.

It would be great if the area can get behind us on Saturday. We really appreciate it when the ground is buzzing. Silsden are one of the favourites for the competition, and we really need your support.

Redcar Athletic needs you!

Our game against Silsden may have been pushed back a week due to Storm Babet, but we still need your support as we look to make history at Green Lane.

Should Gary Forster’s side pass a stern test against Silsden and progress through to the second round proper, it will mark the furthest the club have gone in the competition.

It’s a huge incentive and one that we’d love to be strengthened even further by the a bumper crowd at the Lane. So, if you’re around the area on Saturday, get yourselves through our turnstile for Saturday afternoon cup action.

Entry is £7 adults, £4 concessions and £2 under-16s.
