Match Report: Roundhill 0-10 Athletic Under23s
Redcar Athletic Under23s returned to action following two postponements with a comprehensive 10-0 victory over Roundhill FC.
Despite missing a number of key players, Athletic put in an excellent performance and could have won by more.

The game got off to the best possible start with a goal on eight minutes. Right wing back Jack Bage saw his shot well saved by the Roundhill ‘keeper, but Tom Newton was on hand to turn home the loose ball.
It was nearly 2-0 on 11 minutes when Matty Green superbly created a chance for himself but his volleyed effort drew a tremendous save.
It was 2-0 on 15 minutes when a great run and cross from Matty Bage set up Tom Newton, who fired home via a deflection.
Two minutes later, the Under23s were awarded a penalty when Lewis Barwick was fouled. After a bit of confusion over the taker, Barwick himself stepped up but his spot kick drew another excellent save.
Jack Bage, who was causing the Roundhill defence all sorts of issues on the right wing back was unfortunate not to score when his effort hit the post and bounced to safety.
However, he got on the scoresheet just a minute later when a lovely ball from the left from Matty Bage found his brother, who made no mistake at the back post.
Minutes later, Tom Newton nearly grabbed his hat trick, but his effort from 25 yards crashed off the bar.
On a rare foray forward the home side took advantage of an error at the back from Athletic but Matty Rutland raced back to head the ball off the goal line.

It was 4-0 on 34 minutes when a superb deep cross from Ben Andrews was headed across goal by Lewis Barwick to the onrushing Robbie Cuthbert, who volleyed home from six yards out.
It was nearly five a minute later when Ben Andrews drove forward but his shot from 20 yards went agonisingly wide.
As half time approached, the Under23s grabbed two goals in a minute.
First Tom Newton saw his deflected shot hit the post but the loose ball fell to Jacob Spence. Robbie Cuthbert then grabbed his second of the game with a driving run and shot into the corner from just inside the penalty area.
Cuthbert then turned provider when he beat two men but his shot hit the bar. Jacob Spence picked up the loose ball, who finished superbly with a curling shot into the far corner.
Matty Green made it eight on 58 minutes with a tidy finish into the far corner, which came moments after the same player saw his shot tipped onto the bar by the ‘keeper.
As the game reached the final quarter of an hour, Tom Newton came close to his hat trick when he was set up by Josh Parker, but the ‘keeper again saved well.
It was 9-0 on 79 minutes when the ‘keeper again Tom Newton, but Josh Parker was on hand to score from close range. Parker grabbed his brace two minutes later, finishing superbly.
Despite the scoreline, Roundhill – who only had 11 players – never stopped battling, but Redcar Athletic Under23s secured a comfortable win to cement their position in second place in the table.
