The popular forward terminates his contract at Redcar Athletic in search of a new venture.
Redcar Athletic can confirm – further to his request to depart the club – Donny Holdsworth has joined West Auckland Town.
The forward makes the switch to Darlington Road following the mutual termination of his contract, linking up with fellow ex-Redcar man, Oscar Fletcher.
A regular fixture in the side under the tenureship of Gary Forster, Donny Holdsworth became somewhat of a cult favourite due to his efforts in last season’s tremendous late surge up the table.
The forward made 35 appearances in such time, netting 22 goals as the Steelmen clinched a spot in the top six, missing out on the top scorer accolade solely due to a traumatic knee injury.
With a late return to the current campaign, and thus a hindered start, Donny completed a half century of appearances, but struggled to hit the ground running.
The 24-year-old sought playing time to return to his flying form, and as such, today completes a move to West Auckland Town, to join a relatively slim squad.
Donny leaves with the best wishes of everyone at Redcar Athletic, who dearly appreciate his endeavour for the club.
Our paths will no doubt cross again, but until then, the club would like to wish Donny the very best of luck. He will always be welcome on the Redcar seafront, and in red and navy.
