The assistant boss spoke to Dave Edler following a commanding win over Heaton Stannington.
Dave McTiernan hailed a gritty team performance as Redcar Athletic continued a statement start to life in the Pitching In Northern Premier League East with victory over Heaton Stannington.
All three goals came in a dominant second half display. Curtis Round opened the scoring, before a brace from Adam Boyes put the game to bed.
The result sees the Steelmen at the top of the table after just two games, tied on six points with play-off unfortunates – and upcoming opponents – Dunston UTS.
Assistant Manager Dave McTiernan admitted he was thrilled with the performance, praising his players attitude and grit in the face of a tough opponent.
“There was a good attitude all round.” He said.
“Fair play to Heaton Stannington. They came with a game plan.
“We fought well tonight. It was a good team performance. Like I said, in the second half, the fitness levels and quality shone through.
“There wasn’t just one good performance. I thought everyone (played well) all the way through, even the subs that came on.
“I thought it was just a really good, gritty performance. We stuck at our task. We played some good football and we battled really well.”
When asked to single out a standout performer, McTiernan lauded the success of Player of the Match Curtis Round, who netted the opener and laid on for Adam Boyes in a stellar display.
He said: “I thought Curtis was outstanding tonight.
“His energy levels were sky high, and his quality as well. He took a great goal. It was a great ball from Dane (Burlace) and a great header.
“He assisted another goal, but he was just lively all night. He was just fantastic.”
