The assistant manager spoke to Dave Edler following Saturday’s stalemate.
Stand-in boss Dave McTiernan says the Steelmen were disappointed not to come away with victory after a goalless draw with Guisborough Town in the Emirates FA Cup.
The tie will be decided by a replay at the Hollou Sports Stadium on Wednesday 20th August (7:30pm kick-off), with penalties on the line if both sides continue to fall short of a breakthrough.
A tie eagerly anticipated by many, the first half offered very little by the assistant boss’s own admission.
He argued tactical tweaks and a better mentality made the difference as Redcar came out at the restart with a flurry of spurned chances.
Curtis Round and Adam Boyes both struck the woodwork, with Redcar ultimately unsuccessful in their endeavours, and forced to settle for a replay.
“It was a tough tie.” McTiernan said. “Guisborough were never going to make it easy for us.
“I thought in spells we were excellent. We kept the ball really well and we were unlucky. Hit the post. Hit the bar.
“It just didn’t fall for us. First half was a little bit tight, but second half the boys came out and listened to instructions.
“We made a few tweaks tactically, told the lads just to keep going. The lads took it on board, and as I said, it just didn’t fall for us.
“We were unlucky, because I thought we played well. There’s a lot of the lads disappointed that we didn’t win the game.
“Anyway, we go again.
It’s just another game for us on Wednesday. The lads will rest up over the weekend, and as I said, we’ll go again.”
