The assistant boss offered his thoughts on our defeat to the Lions.
Dave McTiernan bemoaned a below-par performance as Redcar Athletic slumped to defeat in their final game of 2024.
Goals from Glen Hargrave and Kyle Fryatt scooped up all three points for a strong-willed Newcastle Benfield, Jack Blackford’s first half consolation all to show for Redcar’s efforts.
The result leaves the Steelmen second at the turn of the year, with but one point from a possible nine. For Dave McTiernan, such a return simply isn’t acceptable.
“First fifteen minutes and we’re two-nil down.” He said.
“Two transitions, two counterattacks, it just really wasn’t good enough.
“We’re beating ourselves at the minute. We’ve got good enough players in that dressing room to be winning a game like this, on a pitch like this.
“We had a couple of chances to win the game, and it feels like goals are going in a little too easy at the other end. Collectively, it’s not good enough.
“From the side, it looks like we’re lacking confidence. There should be no reason for confidence to be low. We’ve been top of the league up until the last couple of games.
“There’s plenty of experience within the ranks. We should be winning games and we should be putting chances away.
“We just have to keep going. We’ve lost a few games, and it’s not good enough, but now is the time to reflect, and see what the boys have going forward.”
