The boss offered his thoughts on our North Riding Senior Cup exit.
Carl Jarrett admitted he was pleased to see his players compete with a side three levels above in a North Riding Senior Cup defeat to Scarborough Athletic.
The Steelmen again exited the competition at the penultimate hurdle, falling victim to an early own goal, and a late strike from Bill Marshall.
Despite missing out on that spot in the final, Carl Jarrett was in high spirits come the final whistle.
Redcar Athletic were perhaps the better team in phases against a representative from National League North, and had certain chances been tucked away, matters could have transpired very differently.
“I am disappointed to get knocked out in a semifinal.” The boss said. “It’s never nice to lose one.
“We had an opportunity to get to that final and play in either ‘Boro or York, to compete for a trophy.
“But, I’m proud of the lads. I thought we competed with a North Conference team, three levels above us as we all know. Especially in the first half.
“I said to the lads in the changing rooms, it’s just about moments in games. That ball falls to Danni Lay in training and he spins and he puts that in the top corner off a set play.
“We had another one deflected and it goes straight in the ‘keeper’s hands. It just didn’t happen for us in that first half in front of goal.
“We were on top with the ball, on the possession side of things, we moved it around well and we completed.
“There were two good footballing teams out there. I think they realised how good we actually are, and changed a few things around at half time.
“They did a professional job against us in the second half. I thought we looked a bit leggy. I don’t think we were as good with the ball.
“But, I can’t complain about the lads’ attitude. The work rate was fantastic. Now, it’s about moving into Saturday.
“Trying to compete with a team three levels above us was always going to be a hard task. I was pretty pleased with the lads application tonight.”
