The boss offered his thoughts on our Northern League defeat.
Carl Jarrett admitted he was ‘devastated’ to suffer late heartbreak at the hands of Shildon in a third successive Northern League defeat.
Redcar Athletic perhaps edged the tight affair – even after the dismissal of Danni Lay – but succumbed to a stoppage time strike from Billy Greulich-Smith.
A tough loss to take, Redcar boss Carl Jarrett sympathised with his players given such a cruel blow.
The First Team Manager praised his Steelmen for ‘hard graft,’ arguing a simple lapse in concentration proved their undoing at the death.
He said: “I feel for the lads today. Unfortunately, we lost it in the last thirty seconds.
“I thought we played really well, even with ten men. We should never have been in that position though, which I’ll deal with.
“The lads have grafted and grafted right through to the last minute of the game. The ball has been put into a dangerous area, and I just didn’t think we dealt with it well enough.
“It was a sloppy goal to give away. The lads are devastated.”
Despite the result, and a man disadvantage, Carl Jarrett thought Redcar Athletic were the better team.
The Steelmen enjoyed the bulk of the opportunities, even after Danni Lay was shown a second yellow card, leading the boss to argue more was perhaps deserved from the match come the ninety minutes.
“If we look at the overall game, I think we dominated the first half of play.” He continued. “I’m not sure (Shildon) had a shot on target.
“If you don’t put the ball in the back of the net, unfortunately you don’t win games. We had enough chances today to win that game.
“That’s football. We’ve just been talking as a management group there. It happened the other way around at their place. They dominated the game and we beat them in the last minute with that Danni Lay header.
“This time, we’ve dominated the game, and they’ve got that late goal.
“I’m just devastated for the lads. I think we put enough into that game to win it, or at least get a point.
“I feel for them.”
