After tomorrow's match, we will have just 8 more games to go, meaning there are only 24 more points up for grabs
As we approach the end of the season, it is becoming very clear that every single side is now fighting for something.
Ossett are still mathematically able to finish 4th, though it will need a lot of things to go their way for that to happen, whereas our lowest position is 6th, though one more point will guarantee us a play-off spot!
Recent form hasn’t been massively generous to our opponents, with the Sheepicorns picking up just 2 wins in their last 11 games.
Blyth Town and Garforth are the teams they beat in that time, though Ossett did also record a stunning 3-0 win against Matlock on Boxing Day.
There have not been any weak points or strong points for Ossett either, with every metric having them placed roughly mid-table.
Overall, they’re currently 14th
Home performances only have them in 13th
Away performances = 15th
Goals scored = 15th
Goals conceded = 12th
Points per match = 17th
The predicted final table has them in 16th, and even their average league attendance has them 15th
Looking at all that, Ossett have just had a season. Nothing of note, nothing worth critiquing
Since the 2022-23 season, they have only finished 15th or 16th. This season, though, they are 14th!
Level on points with 15th placed Lincoln United.
(If you are curious as well, those above metrics, in the order listed, have us in: 1st, 1st, 1st, 1st, 3rd, 1st, 1st and 12th.)
Dunston’s win at home to Brighouse on Wednesday night meant the wait for the play-off guarantee must go on, though in all fairness, I think that is a distant hope now.
We are creeping closer to the trickier fixtures, with Bradford Park Avenue and Matlock a week or so away.
The only thing separating us from them right now is this Ossett match and the cup fixture vs Grangetown.
We have also discovered who our semi-final opponents will be, and it is Owen Burns’ former side, Boro Rangers.
The other semi-final will see Northallerton host Yarm & Eaglesliffe, with that fixture taking place on the 24th of this month.
Just 5 home league fixtures remain as well for us, including this Ossett one, and so very soon the Hollou could be a Step 3 ground.
Exciting stuff, isn’t it
Anyway, I hope to see you tomorrow, but if not, then there will be live updates on X.
As always, take care, and up the Steelmen!
