The men from Gateway Park beat Newcastle Blue Star in a penalty shootout.
Last night’s Northern League Division One playoff final confirmed it will be Blyth Town who join the Steelmen in the Northern Premier League East next season.
Town beat Newcastle Blue Star in a dramatic penalty shootout, making it a remarkable fifth promotion in just seven years.
It was Newcastle Blue Star who bit first, reacting after a slow first half performance to take the lead through Micheal Ndiweni.
Blyth started the better, and regained their form as the contest came to a close. Dan Wilson struck from the spot in the 90th minute to send the tie to spot kicks.
A spectacular save from Neil de Jesus and a further miss from Max Emmerson put Town on match point, and Dan Wilson again obliged to make history for his club.
All at Redcar Athletic would like to congratulate Blyth Town on their promotion. We’ll see you at Green Lane once again next season.
Commiserations to Newcastle Blue Star. You will come back stronger!
