Post-match thoughts from the Redcar boss on victory over Whickham.
Carl Jarrett admitted he was delighted with his Steelmen following another impressive win on home soil.
Redcar Athletic stretched their unbeaten run to seven games in the Northern League, Bradley Fewster back to his best in a four-goal demolition of Tony Fawcett’s Whickham.
The forward sprung into action with but six minutes on the clock, catching out Matty Wilkinson in the Lang Jacks’ net with a low drive from the midfield.
A deflected effort conjured Fewster’s second, both quickest to the ball and adept with the finish, before Danni Lay towered high at the back post to add a third come the break.
Mark Anderson added to his own personal tally in similar fashion to Fewster’s opener, beating Wilkinson at his far post to wrap up another stellar afternoon in front of goal.
Redcar Athletic 4-0 Whickham
Bradley Fewster, Danni Lay and Mark Anderson left their mark as Redcar Athletic beat Whickham.
Little to complain about, Carl Jarrett admitted he was rather thrilled with the performance, his players heeding pleads to start the match on the front foot.
“I thought we were very, very good in the first half.” He said. “And worthy of our four goals.”
“There was some good play. The players were asked to start on the front foot, after Northallerton, Carlisle and Boro Rangers last week. It took a lot out of the lads.
“Obviously, having eight days off, two training sessions and being able to work on a few things, I thought we played really well.”
A more professional second half showing, Carl conceded he was no less pleased, despite being under pressure in certain pockets of play.
The boss expressed his relief to rotate the squad somewhat, resting Danni Lay and Chat Liddle, whilst reintroducing Olly Cann for the first time since injury.
“When you’re four-nil up in games, it makes it easier in the second half.” He said.
“I’m glad to get some of the lads on, and to use the squad. To give some of the lads a little bit of a rest.”
“Overall, with the performance, I’m delighted.
“When you’re four-nil up, and you get three points, you’ve got to be delighted as a manager.”
