The Ladies boss looks ahead to another promising campaign.
Redcar Athletic Ladies are set to begin another campaign in the North Riding Women’s’ Premier Division this weekend, and coach Matthew Gibson believes a title challenge is well within reach.
The Ladies’ boss said his side are ready to contend with those at the summit of the division, faced with a tough test on opening day in the form of Guisborough Town.
Blessed with a curtain-raiser on home soil, but cursed to face one of the division’s best, Redcar Athletic Ladies Manager Matthew Gibson revealed spirits were high amongst the squad, and ambitions higher.
“We want to be challenging at the top.” He asserted.
“We’ve always been there or there abouts, and there shouldn’t be any reason why this season would be different.”
“The summer has been a learning curve for the Ladies. We had a few preseason friendlies, addressing fitness and working on things in game.
“We won the Plate Cup at South Park’s tournament, so I would say the summer has been productive, for everyone involved.“
Given the tough ask of upsetting local neighbours Guisborough Town on opening day, Gibson admitted it was certainly a difficult starting point, but nothing his players wouldn’t be up to.
Quizzed on how to approach to such a fixture, the Ladies boss said: “Definitely methodically.”
“Guisbrough (Town) are a good side who’ve gotten off to a great start. They’ll be feeling confident.
“We just need to prepare well and play our game. Spirits are high, and we’re excited to get the season underway on Sunday.”
Redcar Athletic Ladies host Guisborough Town Ladies at Green Lane on Sunday 15th September, with matters set to get underway at 2pm.
Admission is FREE, with food and drink on offer as usual.
