Match Report: New Marske Sports Club 3-4 Redcar Athletic Under23s

Redcar Athletic Under23s closed the gap on league-leaders Redcar CF, coming back from 3-1 down to grab a hard fought win.

The game got off to the perfect start for Redcar when a cross-shot from David Bradley found the unmarked Jack Charlton, who finished well.

Parity was restored on 10 minutes when Emrah Isik made a great save but the New Marske striker, looking suspiciously offside, finished well.

It should have been 2-1 to Athletic two minutes later when Jack Charlton and Adil Hanif combined, but Charlton fired over the bar. Athletic were clearly in the ascendancy and Hanif was next to have a shot, his effort going just over the bar.

On 22 minutes, Matty Bage tried his luck from distance, but his shot went just wide. Two minutes later a great run from David Bradley teed up Jack Charlton, who shot over the bar.

It was nearly 2-1 to Athletic on 25 minutes when Adil Hanif showed great perseverance to win the ball and his shot hit the near post.

Completely against the run of play, the home side made it 2-1 on 26 minutes when a fine pass found the New Marske striker who finished superbly.

Athletic were hit by a hammer blow on 35 minutes when the home side made it 3-1, though the scorer looked well offside.

With half time approaching, Adil Hanif saw a deflected shot well saved by the New Marske keeper.

It was 3-2 on 42 minutes when a shot from Tyler Atkinson fell into the path of an offside-looking Jack Charlton, who finished tidily.

The second half started with a great save by Emrah Isik. After that, Athletic dominated the next phase of the game.

On 62 minutes, a curling shot from 20 yards from Ste Sullivan drew a great save from the New Marske keeper. Moments later David Bradley fired into the side netting as Athletic pressed for an equaliser.

That duly arrived on 69 minutes when a lovely ball from Adil Hanif found Ste Sullivan who finished brilliantly.

Athletic were piling on the pressure and took the lead with 15 minutes left when an Adil Hanif cross was flicked on by David Bradley to Tyler Atkinson, who shrugged off his marker to fire past the keeper.

Athletic continued to press and Josh Parker drew a good save from the New Marske keeper, before Ste Sullivan saw a shot cleared off the line.
