Layton Watts completes West Auckland Town move
The popular forward has called time on his Redcar career.
First brought into the fray as a late substitute, Layton Watts opened his account in red and navy against West Allotment Celtic.
The midfielder added a crushing 4th goal to the tally in a demolition of the Tynesiders, converting from the spot on the brink of stoppage time.
Layton went on to make 40 appearances across the course of the 2023/24 season – half of which under the reign of Carl Jarrett – clocking 9 goals, and laying on a squad-record 9 assists.
Much like his first goal at East Palmersville, Layton developed a knack for scoring late, netting 3 times after the 85th minute.
The 22-year-old dealt a 95th minute sucker-punch to North Shields, crushing West Auckland’s spirit too with an 87th minute insurance goal in a 3-1 victory at Green Lane.
Pulling the strings from midfield, Layton harboured a great influence as a late addition to the game.
The midfielder netted 5 times from the bench, adding a further 2 assists, and thus proving the club’s most impactful game-changer during the 2023/24 season.
