Over £9,000 was raised in memory of the much loved Dave Peacock, who sadly passed away from cancer in 2022.

The funds – totalling £9,785 – have enabled the radiotherapy department at James Cook Hospital to acquire a new bladder scanner, which treated Dave as well as Redcar Athletic’s Caron Fryett.

On the fundraising efforts, Caron said: “A massive thank you to every single one of you that helped us to raise this amazing amount.”

Back in December of 2022, Redcar Athletic hosted a memorial charity match for Dave, in which our coaches and club members faced our reserves team – with the reserves coming out 5-2 winners.

There was a half-time raffle, and the entry fee was any donation towards the fundraiser.

In May, Club President Kevin Fryett organised a charity dinner at Kirkleatham Walled Garden to raise more funds, with the night featuring an appearance from former Middlesbrough goalkeeper Mark Crossley, and comedy from Gary Marshall.

A huge thank you goes to Caron, whose idea it was to raise vital funds in memory of Dave and in thanks to the treatment she received within the department.

Redcar Athletic Football Club would also like to extend its thanks to those that supported our events to raise funds in memory of Dave, who was much loved and respected by not just this club, but grassroots football as a whole.
