The Steelmen made their pre-season debut in a 2-1 win over Redcar Town last Friday.

With less than a month to go until Kendal Town visit Green Lane in the Northern League curtain-raiser, Redcar Athletic’s pre-season preparations are in full swing.

Progressing from light training to minutes in play, the Steelmen ran out narrow victors over near-neighbours, Redcar Town, holding a National League outfit to a draw in a behind-closed-doors affair.

The 2024/25 football season is but three weeks away, and the familiar voice of the Steel Army is soon to echo across the Redcar seafront once more.

Keen to hit the ground running come July 27th, Carl Jarrett called his squad back for their first training session in late June, the Steelmen soon put through their paces in a series of bi-weekly meetings.

In tandem with six new additions, a number of the club’s Under-23s joined the roster, captain Ethan Cartwright and Terry May League Cup final goalscorer Cam Thomson to name just a few.

Three weeks of hard graft came to a head last Friday, as a visit to Mo Mowlam Memorial Park marked a welcome return to footballing action.

In typical pre-season fashion, an out of action pitch relegated the Redcar derby to the junior fields, Athletic still bettering their Town rivals by two goals to one, despite losing Josh Mazfari to an early dismissal.

A behind-closed-doors friendly with a National League outfit continued preparations for the coming campaign, Danni Lay rising to nod home a second half equaliser as the bout ended honours even.

England’s progression to the semifinals of Euro 2024 put paid to Redcar’s next scheduled outing, a visit to Stockton Town’s MAP Group UK Stadium now to be replaced by a clash with Division Two side, Billingham Town.

The match is due to take place at North Shore Academy in Stockton this Thursday evenjng, proceedings due to get underway at 7:30pm.

Fans keen to see the Steelmen in action a little closer to home must wait only a while longer, as Green Lane finally reopens its doors this weekend for the visit of Whitby Town.

Tickets will be sold solely on the gate, setting adults back just £5, with concession entry £3, and under-16s a mere £2.
