The acting boss offered his thoughts on our resounding win against Marske United.

Dave McTiernan took charge of another commanding victory at the B&D Interiors Stadium, as Redcar Athletic thrashed local rivals Marske United by five goals to nil.

The assistant boss praised what he labelled an ‘outstanding’ performance, but was quick to urge his players to focus on the end goal of winning the Northern League.

It was another quick start for the Steelmen when Mark Anderson looped home a delightful ball from Oscar Fletcher, pouncing on Adam Boyes’ tidy lay off to double the tally.

Bradley Fewster curled home a beautiful third goal on the stroke of the half, before Anderson completed his treble with Fletcher again the architect.

The midfielder finally added to his own account with the final kick of the game, Priestley Griffiths’ strike deflecting past Oli Swan to see Marske well and truly buried.

For Dave McTiernan, it was another fantastic showing for Redcar Athletic, but above being a derby, it was another three points in a push for the title.

“Like I said on Saturday, it was just instilling the belief in the changing room that we can go and beat any side.” He said.

“Credit to Marske, they kept working, but when you come up against us when we’re like that, it’s going to be hard to play against us. We’ve played some really good football.

“We played through the lines. We had intent in the final third. And we scored some great goals tonight.

“Derby aside, it’s just another opponent. For us, it’s just staying focused on what we want at the end of the season. We want to win the league.

“Marske was just another game for us. We just wanted to win that game.”

Once again a hidden talking point, Redcar’s backline claimed a fifth successive clean sheet in the Northern League.

Marske created little of note even as time ticked down, but Josh Mazfari still stood firm when called upon with a number of outstanding saves.

“Our defence has been really calm.” Dave McTiernan said. “In possession and out of possession.

“They don’t want to concede that goal. From a management point of view, it’s just as important.

“With ‘Bully’ on the coaching staff, who was a really good centre-half during his playing career, he keeps them right.”
