Carl Jarrett says there is no pressure on his Steelmen when they face Scarborough Athletic in the North Riding Senior Cup semifinals on Tuesday evening.

The boss in fact relished the chance for Redcar Athletic to pose as the underdogs, willing his players to take the game to the National League North outfit.

It’s the third time in four seasons that the Steelmen have reached the semifinals of the North Riding Senior Cup, and once again, it’s Scarborough Athletic on the opposite side of the halfway line.

The Seadogs last came to the B&D Interiors Stadium in 2022, when goals from Luca Colville and James Cadman overcame an early Redcar lead.

Much has changed since that day, but for Carl Jarrett, tonight still offers his title-leading side the chance to enjoy themselves, even with a place in the final on the line.

“We’re massive underdogs.” He said. “We’re not stupid. We know what we are, and we know where we are compared to them.”

“It’s a good game. It’s a chance for the lads to go out and enjoy themselves at home.

“We know we are quite good here. We still haven’t conceded a goal at home in the league this year.

“There’s no pressure on the lads.”

Despite facing little expectations, Jarrett refused to concede the game to superior opposition.

The Redcar boss proclaimed his side want that place in the final just as much as Scarborough Athletic, and despite being the underdogs, will compete to the last breath.

“We want to be competing for that spot in the final, just like they are.” He added.

“Scarborough are a very good team. We know all about them. The standards that they set, and how high they are in their division.

“For our lads, it’s a game we’re going to go into as underdogs, like I said. I think that’ll be for the first time this season.

“I’ve been really looking forward to this. It’s a semifinal. We’ll try to do what we can, be as strong as we can, and take it very seriously.

“We want to win trophies at the end of the day.”
