Redcar Athletic President Kev Fryett has issued a statement following Tuesday's historic night at Green Lane.

A record 1,781 fans were in attendance as the Steelmen hosted National League side Hartlepool United in the final friendly of pre-season.

It surpasses the previous record set in July 2021, where 720 spectators watched Redcar Athletic take on Middlesbrough Under-23’s in a friendly.

President Kev Fryett was keen to place on record his thanks to those that made it a proud night in Redcar, despite the result.

So last night we attracted our record attendance of 1781 to the BM Bi-Fold Doors Stadium for a friendly against Hartlepool United.

This was a fantastic occasion, not only for the club but for the town and people of Redcar. We hope that as the club continues to develop, these kind of attendances become the norm and, as such, it was important that the club demonstrated that it has the resources and capabilities to host such a game safely and effectively, and to reassure our neighbours and local community that disruption would be at the minimum.

Last night’s event was well organised, planned thoroughly and with the help of a whole host of organisations and people, went as smoothly as possible.

Redcar Athletic Football Club would like to thank the following:

Redcar Rugby Club, our neighbours, who provided us with their car parking facility for spectators. The car park was supervised and they handled the large volume of traffic superbly.

Cipher Medical Services who provided a professional medical service both for the players and spectators attending the game.

Close Protection Security who provided Security Officers in the event of any incidents with the large attendance. Thankfully both sets of spectators behaved impeccably; mixing and just enjoying the occasion leaving the Security Officers with just a watching brief. The Security officers were professional, respectful and provided a high quality service.

Smokin’ Joes Guisborough – Thank you to Joseph and his staff for providing catering for the event, we received lots of great comments on the variety and quality of their food and they worked their socks off ensuring everyone was catered for.

Local Residents – thank you for your understanding and we hope that last night did not inconvenience you, we seemed to manage the traffic up and down the Lane well even though they were one or two minor hiccups. If you do have any concerns or worries please come and speak to us so we can see where we can help and improve things for future events.

Local Community Police who popped in to ensure everything was going smoothly and went away very impressed and new Redcar Athletic supporters!

Steelmen’s Bar – Neil Dooley and his staff were overstretched and overworked but were fantastic and never stopped smiling and kept the drinks flowing.

Our supporters – the clubs’ support has continually increased over the seasons but last night’s support was nothing short of incredible and left club officials astounded, but not surprised, because the rapport between the players and supporters has been something special recently and long may that continue. A massive special thanks must go to the fantastic support last night and we hope to see you return again in the future starting on Saturday with our first League game of the season v Birtley Town, 3pm kick-off.

Hartlepool United – the Chairman, officials, management team, players and supporters – thank you for playing the game and helping us record a record attendance and a great occasion. The supporters of Hartlepool United were simply amazing and a credit to the club and we wish you all the very best in your forthcoming League campaign.

Finally, but certainly not least our very own band of volunteers who were just fantastic. Working under extreme pressure at times in torrential rain they are amazing and simply the best.

Thank you everyone, what an amazing night.

Up the Steelmen!
