Redcar Athletic are delighted to announce the signings of four new Steelmen.
The club have acted swiftly to acquire the services of Adam Boyes, Curtis Round, Jason Kennedy and Kevin Burgess, all from Marske United. The quartet are in the squad for tonight’s trip to Northallerton Town.
Meet the new boys, below:
A well-renowned, mercurial forward, Adam Boyes becomes the first acquisition under the tenure of Carl Jarret.
Hailing from nearby Lingdale, Adam is one of the finest sporting personalities the region has to offer.
The clinical number nine ignited his illustrious career in the youth system at York City, before flirting with many a club in the National League and its northern denominator.
‘Bosh’ linked up with Carl Jarrett at Mount Pleasant in 2020, since writing his name in the history books as a Marske United legend.
The forward notched over 80 goals in his tenure with the Seasiders, wrapping up multiple accolades in the Northern Premier League, and winning the Golden Ball in the 2021/22 Emirates FA Cup with a sensational 11 goal haul.
Round gained fan favourite status at Mount Pleasant, having made over 200 appearances for Marske and scoring 53 goals along the way in his six seasons at the club.
A pacey left sided wide player who can operate on the wing or at wing-back, Round is back in TS10 having previously played for neighbouring club, Redcar Town. After his spell at the Mo Mowlam Memorial Ground, he went on to play for Guisborough Town and Whitby Town before joining Marske in the 2016/17 season.
In the winter of 2022, Round made the switch to Blyth Spartans, where he was later that month joined by current Steelmen forward Isaac Walker. He made 31 appearances for the National League North side, before returning to Marske in September 2023.
The 28-year-old has been an integral part of the Seasiders’ rise up the leagues, starring in the 2021/22 season which resulted in promotion under Carl Jarrett, but also featuring in the sides that won the Northern League title in 2018 and the North Riding Senior Cup in 2020.
The midfielder, who has enjoyed a fruitful career across the Football League and non-league pyramid, becomes the latest player to sign up to the Carl Jarrett era.
Kennedy started his career at Middlesbrough, forming part of the 2003/04 FA Youth Cup winning squad. Two years later he made his debut for Boro in a 1-0 defeat to Fulham – a notable game within the history books, with the starting XI that day taking top spot for the youngest side ever fielded in a Premier League match.
Following his departure from the Riverside in 2008, Kennedy went on to play for Darlington before joining Rochdale, where he enjoyed his most successful spell, making 200 appearances and helping The Dale to promotion within his four years in Greater Manchester.
Moves to Bradford, Carlisle, Hartlepool and Spennymoor followed until his most recent chapter at Marske United, where he won promotion under current Athletic boss Carl Jarrett.
Since joining Marske in 2022, Jason has been a near ever present in the centre of midfield making a total of 69 appearances, scoring 9 goals.
A rock at the heart of defence, Kevin Burgess becomes the fourth addition to Redcar’s ranks since the accession of Carl Jarrett.
The robust central defender began his career in the youth set-up at Middlesbrough, before making the switch to then football league outfit, Darlington, where he made 78 appearances across two spells, notching 15 goals.
A loan spell at Whitby Town in the youth of his career soon lead to a permanent signing, and having captained both Darlington and the blue Seasiders, Burgess made the move to Scarborough Athletic.
Kevin joined Marske United in June 2019, building a reputation as a reliable leader during his four and a half year stay at Mount Pleasant.
The commanding centre-half brings to the Northern League experience from atop the non-league pyramid, certain to both bolster options in defence, and provide a calm, but stern presence around the club.
The acquisition of four undeniable talents from a club of the calibre of Marske United proves a statement of intent from Redcar Athletic, as the Carl Jarrett era marks a new dawn upon the Redcar seafront.
The Board of Directors commented: “For us to work to successfully get Adam, Curtis, Jason and Kevin into the club is major coup.
“Although we have not been where we want to be this season in respect of results, the determination to keep pushing the club forward on and off the field is unmoved.
“As a board, we are as determined as ever to create a club that the town of Redcar deserves. We said from the very start that that means attracting the best local players to the club; this is certainly evidence of that.
“We also want to thank the lads for how they have conducted themselves in what has been an uncertain time for them. We’d also like to thank Marske United for their help in making sure the guys were able to have a smooth transition.
“We really hope that as many people as possible can come down to Green Lane in the future to support Adam, Curtis, Jason and Kevin, as well as all the other Steelmen!”
All four new additions are now available for sponsorship.
