Star attacking duo Donny Holdsworth and Sonni Coleman put pen to paper on this day in 2022.

The pair were ex-boss Steve Connolly’s first inductions of the summer, joined by Matt Crossen as part of a treble signing to kick off the season.

Holdsworth and Coleman made a combined 60 appearances during the season, notching a total of 37 goals as the Steelmen sealed a fantastic top six finish.

Crowned fans’ player of the season just last month, Donny Holdsworth struggled for game time early in his stay, locking down his place as a regular under the tenure of Gary Forster, as Athletic went from strength to strength on a spate of great form.

The former Middlesbrough academy man went on to net 22 times in the Northern League, falling just short of the golden boot to the champions’ Liam Jarvie, after being sidelined by injury.

His fellow inductee, Sonni Coleman, was a sought after man, and it was a real coup to bring him to Green Lane.

Coleman too proved instrumental to Redcar’s fortunes, making more appearances than any other player during the course of the year.

Nicknamed the ‘goalman’, Sonni found the net 15 times, including in both the Emirates FA Cup and the Isuzu FA Vase, of which we’d rather not remind you of the result…

The forward duo were joined by versatile defender Matt Crossen as part of a hat-trick of early signings, but the England Cerebal Palsy captain has since departed the club.
