Match Report: Redcar Athletic 7-0 Brighouse Town

17 in 3 becomes 24 in 4 as we score 7 goals, this time against Brighouse Town

Another comfortable win for the Steelmen, this time as we bagged 7 against a faltering Brighouse side.

It was known what sort of level Brighouse were playing at, and after the Ashington result, there were also thoughts of another goal haul.

We started strong, too, with an early strike from Louis Johnson going behind. Dane Burlace then had a looping cross nearly catch out the Brighouse keeper, though that attempt was also dealt with

But we did get an early goal, through Adam Boyes too. Danni Lay was out on the left wing and lofted a ball into the box that Bosh, at the far post, was able to connect with as he put a header over the keeper.

We continued to push for more after our first, with John Howard attempting an acrobatic effort, though he both missed the ball and was also offside.

A solid passing move in the 26th minute was cut short when Nathan Guru was judged to be offside.

Our second goal did arrive, though, and in some style too. JJ Bartliff received a pass and laid it off to Louis, who took a couple of touches and then unleashed an absolute pearl of a strike that went in the top corner, clipping the crossbar on its way in

More attempts for the Steelmen came and went, but our third goal wasn’t far away as in the 41st minute, a corner rebound was whipped back into the box by John Howard, Rio May nodded it down, and Danny Rowe produced a neat flick that took a slight deflection and went in, though it was goalbound without that deflection.

Danny, within 3 minutes of getting his first, then got a second goal, as another corner was whipped in, it pinged about in the box, and Rowe was able to ultimately sweep it in. 4-0 up in the first half, once again, things were really going well.

We started the second half even quicker than the first, with Bosh getting his brace in the 49th minute, as John Howard cut back and attempted a shot that took a wild deflection, and the ball proceeded to fall to Adam, who turned it in amidst appeals for an offside that weren’t given.

Mark Anderson and Owen Burns came on for John and Oscar, Bosh and Louis both had decent chances that went over and wide respectively, and we got our 6th goal in the 66th minute.

Dane Burlace, down the right wing, lifted a brilliant ball into the box, and Owen Burns rose highest to head it into the net.

We made a triple sub moments after, with Curtis Round, Kev Burgess and Brad Fewster all coming on for Rio May, Danni Lay and Louis Johnson.

Things dulled down slightly as the half ticked on, with Fewster and Bosh coming the closest, but it was Owen Burns who would bag our 7th and final goal of the afternoon.

Another corner, this time from Mark Anderson, was whipped in, and Owen Burns at the back post headed it in again.

We nearly got an 8th too as the minutes ticked on, with Fewster unable to get a proper shot off, and Bartliff attempting a rabona assist that couldn’t be turned in.

But in the end, it was just the seven goals for us. Another clean sheet too, February was a pretty decent month for us. Here’s hoping March is just as good.

Up next, we are travelling to Heaton Stannington for a Tuesday night fixture. Our next Saturday match is away to Lincoln United, and our next home match is the rearranged fixture against Blyth Spartans on the 11th

Hopefully, we see you at all three; if not, take care and up the Steelmen.
