Another amazing performance saw Redcar beat Pontefract 5-1 as they climb further up the league.

In one of the best team performances in a while, Redcar Athletic hammered Pontefract with a 4 goal cushion.

Starting the day in 5th, there were expectations of a tough task ahead, with the visitors being just a couple spots behind us in the league.

However, we started the match on the front foot, with Louis Johnson instantly becoming a focal point as his pace and control meant he was able to frequently gt the ball and take it closer to Pontefract’s box.

In the 14th minute it was Johnson who grabbed the lead, as Adam Boyes was slipped through but saw his shot parried back out.

However, Louis was there to get the ball and put it past a blend of Redcar and Pontefract kits, into the back of the net.

A matter of minutes later we won a corner, amidst the shouts of a handball, and said corner was whipped in and headed home by Rio May* on his debut, giving the hosts a 2 goal lead in 20 minutes.

*(Note: It is not Murray)

Some more close chances came for us, but none could be capitalised, and it meant we went into the break leading 2-0

The second half saw Redcar turn on the style, as we began to play even more great football, as we showed no signs of letting up.

Pontefract nabbed a goal due to an error from Mazfari in the 55th, but five minutes later we won a penalty as Burns slipped between two Pontefract defenders and has hauled down.

Amidst the setup for the penalty, one of Pontefract’s players also received a red card. I, along with the fans behind the goal, couldn’t quite figure out why, but we believe it was for dissent.

Whatever it was for though, he was off, and Pontefract were down to 10, and also back to being two goals behind, as Johnson swept the penalty into the side of the goal to make it 3-1!

The next twenty minutes saw little in terms of action, but Fewster, Brian Taylor and Mark Anderson were all brought on (There’s a reason I’m mentioning this).

From the minute he was brought on, Fewster was persistent in trying to get on the scoresheet, being the central point of many Redcar chances

In the 89th minute he finally got his goal, as a ball was whipped into the box, and he was on hand to stab it home.

Three minutes later and he had his second, and Redcar’s 5th. Anderson played a ball out wide to Taylor, who made his way down the wing before whipping in one of the cleanest crosses I have ever witnessed.

Said cross landed at the feet of Fewster who poked it past the keeper to make it 5-1!

That ended up being the final major act of the match, and it meant that once again, Redcar finished a home match with a high scoring margin!

Up next, we go to Garforth on Saturday, weather permitting of course.

Match preview will be out tomorrow, hope to see you somewhere soon, be it Garforth or Redcar!
